FAQ
Can I use regular Wi-Fi instead of HaLow?
Yes. The snapclient firmware and Snapserver work over any IP network. You can skip the HaLow part of the project or mix HaLow and standard Wi-Fi endpoints on the same Snapserver.
Can I use sources other than Spotify?
Yes. Snapserver accepts audio from any source that can write to a named pipe or be captured as a stream. Each source appears as a separate stream in Snapserver, and endpoints can be assigned to different streams.
- Spotify through librespot.
- MPD for local music libraries.
- AirPlay through shairport-sync.
- Line-in through ALSA loopback.
- Bluetooth through bluealsa.
- Web streams through any player that outputs to a pipe.
Do I need a HaLow access point?
Yes, if you want to use the long-range HaLow part of the system. The endpoints connect to a Wi-Fi HaLow AP, and that AP connects back to the server by Ethernet, Wi-Fi bridge, USB, or another supported path.
Is this a finished product?
No. LongWave Audio is an early-stage open-source project. It is suitable for builders who are comfortable with soldering, flashing firmware, and debugging, but it is not a plug-and-play consumer product yet.
Where can I get help?
- Open an issue on the GitHub repository.
- Post in relevant ESP32, Morse Micro, or Snapcast community forums.
